The kids had a great weekend. I think they finally shook off the dust bunnies and insecurities of the last few weeks. Betsy had a some bad luck during her stock class. She finished 3rd in her heat, which put her into the Consi where she finished last. She came off the track in tears, and told Dad and Grandpa the machine was not right. Well, she was right, something broke in the throttle. They got it fixed up for her and she finished 6th in Superstock. We then moved on to sprinter where for the only her second time out on one she finished in 4th place, and finally for the first time out finished 5th in Lemans. Betsy missed the final for her Improved class.

Griffin as well had a great weekend! Starting out right, his first class was Superstock, which he passed for the lead and went on to win. We were so excited to see him back! Up next was Champ, he finished 3rd, but he was coming just needed a few more laps. Sprinter, he finished 3rd, Improved he won but he had to hold off competitors, which he did very skillfully and finally in Lemans he took 2nd.

We had a great day at Pike Lake Resort in Hatley Wisconsin. This was a backup plan not on the original schedule due to Richland Center cancelling due to lack of ice. The staff was wonderful; very prompt and courteous. They even set up food on the track for all of our hungry racers and families!

Thanks for having us we hope to be back next year.

02/11 – 02/12 2012 Weyauwega, WI

Our weekend started out pretty slow moving.  I think it was the coldest weekend yet.  On Saturday morning, it was -15 wind chill.  The kids had a heck of a time keeping their little hands warm.

Betsy was up first in her stock class.  She ended up 1st in the Consi race. Next up was Super stock.  Griffin had a late start and ended up 6th in the final, with Betsy taking 5th in the consi race.  Improved and Lemans looked like they were going to be the best classes of the day for Griffin, he did really well in the heats, even winning 3 of them.  When it came to the finals, his starts were just off by a bit and it ended up costing him big.  He ended up 4th in Improved and 5th in Lemans.  We really think he had the sled to beat, but he just didn’t give it a chance to win.

Sunday, the temperatures were a bit warmer, no wind chill right away, which made it feel like summer!  Today was modified day.  First up Sprinter.  Betsy’s first time out ever.  She did really well.  She even ended up winning her consi race.  She is looking forward to this weekend.  We think she caught the “fast bug” she will be running improved and improved lemans.  She really wants to give the boys a run for their money now!  Griffin took over in the heats again, looking like the fastest sled all day.  When finals came, he just couldn’t hold on.  He ended up 5th in Champ and 5th in Sprinter.

This week we had a schedule change.  Richland Center cancelled our race due to the unseasonable weather we are having.  The club was able to find ice and sponsorship for Pike Lake in Hatley Wisconsin.  Looks like the temps are going to stay mild, let’s hope there is enough ice to support us for Sunday.

All of our racing was canceled due to poor ice conditions.  We will be at Weyauwega for the Fire on Ice show next weekend hosted by WKCR.

January 28/29 2012 Wausau 525/Badger State Games

After a tough weekend last weekend, we came to redeem ourselves.  We ended up have a great weekend!  Griffin finished 2nd in Stock, Lemans, and Sprinter.  We had a tough day with our champ, even tipping it over at one point, but we were able to hold on to finish 5th.

Also, this weekend we participated in the Badger State Games.  With all of Griffin’s 2nd places he also received 3 silver medals!

Betsy wasted no time on her weekend off; she decided she wanted to try something new.  She was able to take a few practice laps on Griffin’s Sprinter.  She loved it!  Next weekend, we may have to dip our toes into a bit of competitive modified racing!!

01/19 – 01/21 2012
Eagle River World Championships

The weekend did not start out on a good note.  Upon arrival to the track, it was very small with tight corners.  After the kitty cat sleds ran on Friday, the track was deemed unsafe for the 120’s and something would have to be done.  The water truck that was supposed to arrive Friday night and flood the track so we could make it bigger broke down.  So all day Saturday they had the Eagle River Fire Department there flooding the track.  We were hoping it would freeze and we could run on Sunday.  Sunday morning, we have a track.  We started on a great note.  Betsy won Amateur 120 and 120 Stock.  Griffin had a minor self-inflicted spin while leading the SuperStock, so we finished 6th.  He was able to hold off his competitors for a Win in Improved. His first time in the class!  We had a presentable 5th in Sprinter and a 4th in Champ.  We did not run Lemans class due to the track.  During tech, the techs found our springs were 2 pounds too heavy and decided to disqualify (DQ) us.  Sad to say, instead of the kids being World Champs for Am 120, 120 Stock and Improved, they received nothing.  We still consider them our World Champs .  Keep your heads up  kids!

Lepak Racing is proud to announce our newest sponsor for the 2012 season.
We would like to welcome Amherst Marine. Welcome!

01/14/2012 St. Germain

Well, we started out having a pretty rough day.  At hot laps, we didn’t get to practice much due to the Sprinter, it would not achieve high RPM.   Betsy was the first race up with her Amateur 120.  She was great, she was late coming out of the hole, but after one lap she passed for the lead and never looked back.  After pulling in to Victory lane she said her sled wasn’t right, after Dad and grandpa looked it over, they ran it on the stand and the motor let loose.  Next up was Betsy’s 120 stock, without a motor we thought we were done.  Then Dad and grandpa “borrowed” Griffin’s sled and converted it quickly.  Lone behold she was first off the line and NEVER looked back.  She won by almost half a lap!    Griffin’s turn. Sprinter.  With every appendage crossed, we prayed it would just finish the race.  Wow!  Something went right, we drove to Victory lane!  Super Stock is up.  Sled ran good, continued with our winning streak.  Griffin made it 4 race in a row for SuperStock victory.  During the Champ race, another racer caused a red flag, good for us as  Griffin has lost a shock.  This gave us the 5 minutes we need to repair, luckily all parts were found on the track.  Upon re-start, we ended up 2nd.  Improved 120 we finished 2nd after running 3 wide for 2 laps.  Lemans, during the warm up laps, we had a small driver malfunction.  He came into the right turn and flipped his sled on into its side.  (Dad was trying something new…..for traction, guess it worked) On to the green flag start, we got the kinks out and we headed to Victory lane for the final time today.

This brought our totals to Betsy 2 first place and Griffin, 3 first places and 2 2nd places.  GREAT WEEK!!!

Next up: WORLD CHAMPIONSHIPS in Eagle River on Saturday and Sunday.  If you plan on attending, please contact us for more information. Diana@lepakracing.com
